LJPIA Triumphs at the 21st NCR-JPIALYMPICS: Hirakuma’s Gauntlet The Letran Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (LJPIA) celebrates after securing the basketball championship at the 21st NCR-JPIALYMPICS: Hirakuma’s Gauntlet.

The Letran Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (LJPIA) proudly showcased the Letranite spirit as it participated for the first time in the 21st NCR-JPIALYMPICS: Hirakuma’s Gauntlet, held at De La Salle Araneta University on February 1, 6, 7, and 8.

Organized by the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants – National Capital Region (NFJPIA–NCR), the event brought together accounting students from various institutions across the National Capital Region to compete in a series of sporting events that promote camaraderie, teamwork, and holistic student development.

Representing Colegio de San Juan de Letran, the LJPIA delegation competed in several events including Men’s Volleyball, Basketball, Table Tennis, Chess, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Despite it being the organization’s first participation in the regional sports competition, the Letran delegates delivered an impressive and commendable performance.

One of the highlights of the tournament was the remarkable run of the LJPIA Basketball Team, which demonstrated determination and resilience throughout the competition. The team opened their campaign on February 1 against Rizal Technological University – Boni Campus, dominating the match and securing a convincing 53–23 victory to advance to the next round.

On February 6, LJPIA faced the University of Caloocan City – North, the defending champion of the previous JPIAlympics. In a closely contested match, the team managed to hold their ground and claimed a hard-fought 50–47 win, allowing them to move further in the tournament.

The third day of the competition proved to be a challenging test for the team as they faced two crucial games. In their first matchup, LJPIA defeated Our Lady of Fatima University – Quezon City with a solid 57–47 victory, maintaining control of the game through consistent defense and timely scoring. Later that day, the team faced Far Eastern University JPIA, one of the strongest contenders in the bracket. After a difficult start, LJPIA adjusted their pace and intensified their defensive pressure. The game reached a dramatic finish when Yuri Contreras delivered a clutch buzzer-beater, sealing a 52–50 win and securing LJPIA’s place in the championship round.

In the championship game held on February 8, LJPIA faced National Teachers College JPIA in an intense and tightly contested match. Both teams displayed strong determination from the opening quarter, making every possession crucial. Despite the pressure and strong defense from NTC, LJPIA remained composed and continued to fight for every play. The thrilling match concluded with LJPIA securing a narrow 78–77 victory, officially crowning them as champions of the JPIAlympics Basketball Tournament.

Apart from basketball, LJPIA also achieved notable success in other events. John Ronald Pelayo advanced to the quarterfinals of the Chess competition, showcasing exceptional strategy, patience, and focus throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, the Table Tennis duo of Dianne Magbanua and Sean Viterbo earned 2nd Place after a competitive match against representatives from Rizal Technological University – Boni Campus.

The celebration continued during the Awarding Ceremony held on March 1, where three LJPIA players—Lee Javier, Raymond Ferrer, and Jose Maria Lozada—were recognized as members of the Mythical Five for their outstanding performance throughout the tournament. Adding to this milestone, Jose Maria Lozada, a 4th-year Bachelor of Science in Accounting Information System (BSAIS) student, was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Season.

This historic achievement marks a significant milestone for LJPIA, proving that accounting students can excel not only in academics but also in athletics, leadership, and teamwork. The success reflects the enduring Letranite spirit and the organization’s commitment to bringing light to excellence.

The LJPIA extends its heartfelt gratitude to NFJPIA–NCR for successfully organizing the event and providing a platform that fosters unity and camaraderie among accountancy students in the region. The organization also acknowledges the unwavering support of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy, whose encouragement and guidance greatly contributed to this milestone achievement.

With its first participation ending in remarkable success, LJPIA continues to inspire its members to strive for excellence in all endeavors while proudly representing the Letran community.
