The pieces are all set and Letran is more than ready to take home the title in the NCAA Season 92 Chess Tournament which unfolded last August 6 at the Jose Rizal University gym.

The Seniors team is raring to topple the back-to-back titlists, the Arellano Chiefs, while the Juniors team seek the opportunity to take back the crown which it won back in Season 90 and lost the year after to San Beda.

“Sports build character and chess is definitely a discipline that helps in character building by training student athletes to focus, think ahead and the strategic [sic],” said Paul Supan, the athletics director of Jose Rizal University.

The Seniors wasted no time, winning its first two games in the week end, beating Mapua and JRU, ending the week with 5.5 points. The Juniors also couldn’t be denied; they also beat Mapua and JRU, finishing with seven points.

Currently, after eight rounds, the Seniors are at third spot with 11.5 points (good for third). The Juniors team has also accomplished a 3 – 1 win loss with 13 points.

Games are scheduled every Saturday and Sunday from August 6 until September 17 at the JRU gym.
